SAN prizes

In 2006, SAN decided to arrange an annual prize to reward good ideas, initiatives and particularly praiseworthy efforts in the area of work environment. The prizewinner may be an individual, a shipping company or other marine related organisation that has carried out measures to promote the work environment.

The prize consists of honour and glory, a SAN flag in full format, and SEK 10,000. The prize-giving ceremony takes place at the annual SAN conference held in Göteborg every autumn. The jury consists of the SAN board.

SAN will be happy to receive proposals for future work environment prizewinners. These may be a group of people or an individual who has done something extra to improve the work environment onboard.

Prizewinner

SAN prize winner 2009 Christer Sjökvist

Christer Sjökvist

2009: Christer Sjökvist

Bartender and chief safety officer on the Silja Galaxy

Motivation: For working over the past 20 years to create safer, healthier and more enjoyable conditions onboard for himself and his colleagues. In his activities with the work environment he has shown both respect and responsibility for people around him, and no issue has been too large or small to put him off getting involved.
The last year has demanded extra hard work when he and the management and other safety officers on the Silja Galaxy – which changed flag from Estonian to Swedish last summer – spent many, many hours adapting the ship to Swedish regulations and creating a safe working place.
The sort of engagement that Christer has shown time and time again over the years is something greatly needed by employers as well as seafaring personnel, and for that reason we at SAN wish to show our appreciation by awarding him the annual work environment prize.
