Ergonomics to prevent RSI

When a workplace is planned, the starting point should be to adapt it to the people working there – not the reverse. An ergonomically designed work environment does not cause RSI (repetitive strain injury), it is well thought through and creates job satisfaction in work teams.
Machine rooms should not be too cramped, cash desks in shops should preferably be adjustable in height, and on the bridge it is important that controls and buttons have a logical layout, to give some concrete examples.

Making changes to the ergonomic work environment on a ship after it has been built is often both expensive and complicated. It is far better to think ergonomically from the start, while the ship is still being designed in the drawing office.
